Wadi Mujeb

Wadi Mujeb

One of the most spectacular
natural sights in Jordan,
the canyon of Wadi Mujeb,
about 35 Km south from Madaba
on the King's Highway.
The canyon is about a Km deep
and a road winds precariously
down one side and up the other.
At the bottom, there is a dam
with bridge over the wadi.
This canyon is the Arnon of
the Bible and formed a
natural boundary between
the Moabites in the south
and the Amorites in the north.

There are three hiking trails in Mujib:
1. Mujib Lower Trail
This trail takes about one to two hours. The trail starts at the Mujib Bridge.
2. Mujib Circuit Trail
This trail takes about five to six hours. It starts three kilometers south of the Mujib Bridge.
3. Wadi Mujib Trail

The Wadi Mujeb Nature Reserve
The lowest reserve on the
planet! The Wadi Mujib
Reserve was established
in 1987 by the Royal
Society for the
Conservation of Nature.
It has over 400 species
of plants, 250 species
of animals, and 186
species of birds.
The Wadi Mujib Reserve
holds the rare ibex,
which is a large
mountain goat.
The ibex is believed
to have been a symbol
of the Moon God during
the reign of Queen Sheba.
